To own your power isn’t just about speaking up. It’s not about being loud, bold, or dominant. It’s about something quieter, deeper. It’s a specific kind of voice—one that rises from your emotional core. The part of you that feels honest, soft, and true. It’s the declarative voice that says, "This is who I am," without apology. It’s not a performance.
For many people—including myself—this type of empowerment comes and goes. Work life is often a place where many feel the most empowered. And for those people, that’s at times why they get lost in their work. There is a sense of mastery, intellectual confidence, and a structure that gives a sense of power that feels reliable. They’ve learned that so long as they are performing—delivering, achieving, showing up in ways that gain validation—power, inner confidence, and stability are present and accessible. But outside of work, it’s a different story. Outside the structure, the audience, the role—there’s no script. And that’s when the uncertainty creeps in. The very same person who feels grounded in their professional identity might feel wobbly, insecure, or even invisible in their personal life.
